First, it's called fire AND maneuver, not play rocky tank and hoping for a clear shot!  I have seen this in almost every game.  Many people have gotten it in their heads that the entire goal of the game is to blow up the enemy tanks.  As such, they will find a nicely placed rock to absorb the enemies fire.  Then they will move just enough out of cover to fire a shot and then they move back behind the rock.  Now, if this was a real war sim and you were on defense, this tactic would have merit.  However, this game plays much more like an arcade.  As such, the team with the stronger OFFENSE is the one who wins.  Now picture the above tank and a few of his buddies hiding behind the rocks and only popping out for a shot here and ther.  Now, picture a mixed bag of heavy and medium tanks sprinting towards them and past them, concentrating their fire on each tank as they pass by, wrecking them in the process.  Every time my team has used this tactic, we've won.  Every time I've been on a team with campers and this tactic has been used, we've lost.  So remember:  big groups, shoot what other people are shooting, don't stop.  This applies specifically to the medium and heavy tank classes.

Next, where to aim again?  I didn't realize this until today, but the aiming reticle will actually tell you if your shot will likely cause any damage.  Try zooming in on a target and moving the reticle around on the target.  A green reticle means your shot will have a high chance of penetrating and causing damage.  Yellow means that the shot had about a 50/50 chance of penetrating.  Red,  well, switch to HE or try somewhere else.

Finally, HE ammo.  What is it and what does it do?  HE is actually SQUASH rounds used during WW2.  Their purpose was to cause massive damage to crews and internal components of tanks whose armor an  round couldn't penetrate.  They work just like this in game and are considered overpowered.  The actual HP damage they do to a target is minimal (unless the round penetrates the armor).  Instead, the round will spread it's damage around and damage your modules.  Things like turret rotation, speed, loading time, accuracy, etc. can be affected.  I like to go into battle with my first shot being HE and AP being queued up.  The idea is that if I can damage the other guys stuff, my teammates or I can finish him off more quickly Han if he was at 100%.]]> 5490@http://www.therisenphoenixfleet.com WoT, General Tips, Tactics, and Shenanigans 2010-08-17T21:39:59-04:00 http://www.therisenphoenixfleet.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1205#5479
